First crack at a patch. I think it's in pretty good shape, but I had to
rewrite QueryParsing.parseSort(), so it bears some extra scrutiny (although I
put tests in place first).
Added a bunch of new tests for both parsing and for search (see
QueryParsingTest and SortByFunctionTest). All existing and new tests pass.
