Without looking at SnowballPorterFilterFactory sources, have you tried with a 
different language="XXXX" and content in alternative language?

RussianAnalyzer produces russian stemmed forms, but
SnowballPorterFilterFactory with language="Russian" leaves _all_ russian
content unchanged.
