I don't know much about Highlighting, but when i attempt to highlight a multivalued field using the example schema & docs i don't get an error... http://localhost:8983/solr/select/?q=features:cache&hl=true&hl.fl=features Are you using solr "out of the box" or do you by any chance have some custom plugins that might be using the highlighting code in an atypical way? If not: can you give us some more details about what your schema and request params look like when this this error is triggered? -Hoss
