I say it is worth upgrading since 1.2 is old. 1.4 is almost ready to be released. So you may want to wait a little while longer. There are many nice new features in 1.4. There are performance improvement too. In the mean time, you can just get the latest version of the scripts from SVN. Those should work as is.
