I've checked in an improved TestSort that adds deleted docs and randomizes things a lot more (and fixes the previous reliance on doc ids not being reordered). I still can't reproduce this error though. Is this stock solr? Can you verify that the documents are in the wrong order also (and not just the field sort values)?
