Thanks, that helped with a different issue I was having. However the Admin UI issue is a known issue with IE9 (and possibly IE8) https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-3876 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-3841
basically IE is not supported for the Solr Admin UI at this time.
