Where you put it depends on who needs to access it. If only users in your internal LAN need to access the DNS server, then put it "behind" the firewall. If both users in your internal LAN and, say, corporate partners need to access other webservers or database servers or other types of servers in your DMZ but not your internal LAN, then put it in the DMZ.
