March 27, 2003   Product All Sonicwall firewalls (including units managed with SonicWALL Global Management System)   Affected Units All SonicWALL units running firmware below version 6.4.0   Problem Description A problem associated with SonicWALL’s firmware upgrade occasionally causes firmware update failures. This problem is manifested when upgrading units from firmware below 6.4.0 to firmware above 6.4.0 and higher.   Symptoms When this problem occurs, users will see a “Firmware Update Failure” message. The firewall will hang.  The firewall must then be restarted and new firmware must be manually reloaded.   Solution SonicWALL has developed the solution to this problem and is currently in the process of regression testing and developing appropriate deployment scenarios.  You will be notified when this solution is released.   SonicWALL does not advise customers using firmware prior to version 6.4.0 to attempt an upgrade to version 6.4.0 or higher until this problem is resolved.      More Information For additional information about this Service Bulletin is available from SonicWALL Support,         888-777-1476     John Tolmachoff MCSE, CSSA IT Manager, Network Engineer RelianceSoft, Inc.
