Thanks for the info Norbert. Sorry to hijack your thread a bit - but is there a known issue with newer Vaio's (eg: Z13) for setting the backlight power on recent kernels in 64-bit mode ? I can't say whether the problem is new, because I just got the hardware a few days back, but so far, nothing works for me.
- I tried "nvclock" (latest version from CVS today) and it says it doesn't support my hardware. - I tried the "nvidia-bl" module, which logs its writes to dmesg but has no effect on the backlight. - I tried the ACPI (/sys and /proc) entries and they do nothing for me. - I also tried "setpci" commands to no avail. I have tried with kernels 2.6.36 and 2.6.37-rc2, on Gentoo Linux. I have the patched BIOS with static switching enabled, and the hardware switch is set on Speed. X works great with the Nvidia driver *but* I found no way to set the brightness so far ! Thanks in advance for any insight, I'm lost...
