Kosovo: Suspected people traffickers arrested 19 June 2007 | 19:41 | Source: DPA *PRIŠTINA -- Kosovo police said Tuesday they arrested five people in connection with human trafficking. * Weapons and explosives were also seized during the raids. The five suspects were arrested in Mališevo and Uroševac, in southern Kosovo, police said. Among various weapons, including an anti-tank mine, was a “considerable amount” of tritol explosive and a device for remotely- controlled detonation. Owing to its porous borders under the control of a United Nations administration and a NATO-led peacekeeping force, Kosovo has become a major gateway between the East and West for drug smugglers and human traffickers. The arrested group also had various forged local and foreign identity documents, such as Macedonian passports, EU driver licenses and counterfeit Belgian residence permits, the statement said.
