Kosovo electricity transmission dependent on Serbia 30 June 2007 | 17:36 | Source: Tanjug *BELGRADE -- Kosovo's electric energy system is structured in a way so that it cannot function separately from Serbia’s. * General Director of Public Enterprise for electricity transmission management “Elektromreže Srbije” (EMS) Dragan Vignjević said that the transmission system in Kosovo was Serbia’s property and its structure prevented it from functioning separately. “Electricity transmission in the province is currently under UNMIK’s administration. UNMIK and the international community are well aware of that fact,” he said. “The EMS is the regional leader in this field, as immense amounts of energy supply pass through our network to reach Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Hungary,” Vignjević stressed. He reminded that the EMS and Serbia’s public power enterprise (EPS) are crucial systems in the region, and that Kosovo Electric Company would have to turn to them, as Montenegrin, Albanian and Macedonian systems were deficient in energy. According to him, the functioning operation of the electrical system in Kosovo would be discussed with UNMIK representatives in Brussels on July 10.
