*STRASBOURG -- President Boris Tadić has said in Strasbourg Monday he
believed the Kosovo dialogue will produce a compromise.

* At the opening of the 2nd Summer University for Democracy in
Strasbourg, Tadić reiterated that Serbia’s willingness to achieve
compromise should not be underestimated.

“We want to be a part of the European solution and not its problem, and
I believe that Europe, minus Serbia and the western Balkans, is
incomplete,” he said, voicing Serbia’s entrenched position on Kosovo:

“Serbia will never give up on its southern province and its European
future. We are against Kosovo’s independence.”

Tadić warned that independent Kosovo could destabilize not only the
Balkans but other regions as well, citing the Black Sea region that
encountered similar problems as an example.

“We have to analyze all the consequences of independence,” Tadić said,
adding he would adhere to the presidential duty and protect sovereignty
and territorial integrity of his country.

President Tadić is expected to meet with Council of Europe
Secretary-General Terry Davis, European Human Rights Court President
Jean-Paul Costa and CoE Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg
during his visit to the Council of Europe.

Serbia currently presides over the CoE, an international governmental
organization comprised of 47 members.
