“KFOR prepared for anything” 7 August 2007 | 11:49 | Source: BIRN *PRIŠTINA -- KFOR commander General Roland Kather told a Priština daily that his troops were prepared for “every eventuality”. * General Kather said KFOR had learnt from the past and understood that some extremists and criminals might try to trigger violence. “We are prepared for everything. But we don’t have any indicators [and] I don’t have any evidence that says violence might emerge,” he told Express newspaper. According to Kather, most people in Kosovo were fed up with violence. “The economy needs to be developed. People need work. People need to earn money”, he said, stressing that most of the people in Kosovo, whatever their ethnicity, wanted to live in peace and stability. Asked about the parallel structures operating in the northernmost Serbian part of Kosovo, the General said he had no evidence that they had a military side to them. “Sure, they [the Serbs] have another currency. But, parallel structures, meaning here parallel military structures, do not exist there”, Kather said.
