Itar-Tass January 10, 2008 UN resolution on Kosovo should be based on compromise - diplomat MOSCOW - Russia will not agree to the UN Security Council’s decision on the province of Kosovo unless it is based on a compromise, the Russian Foreign Minister’s special representative on the Balkans, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, told ITAR-TASS on Thursday. His comment follows a statement by British Foreign Office Minister for Europe Jim Murphy, who has called for preventing Moscow from vetoing Kosovo’s independence. Botsan-Kharchenko called the statement “strange”. “How can you hinder Moscow; it is a UN Security Council permanent member and has the right for it (the veto). We have principally stated that we will not give consent to the UN Security Council’s decision that is not based on a compromise,” he said.
