Blic Brammertz shall come to Serbia Agreement with EU on February 18, perhaps Author: T. N. Đ. | 08.02.2008 - 06:00 Agreement with EU on February 18, perhaps ‘The EU shall offer to Serbia singing of the agreement on stabilization and association on February 18, if Serge Brammertz, the chief prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal decides until then that Serbia has been fully cooperating with the Hague Tribunal. Brammertz’s evaluation on the cooperation is a precondition for signing of the agreement’, Jelko Kacin, European rapporteur for Serbia says for ‘Blic’. As we learn, Brammertz shall come to Serbia on February 17 shortly before the EU ministerial meeting. Olga Kavran, spokesperson of the Hague Tribunals’ prosecution says, however, that the precise date of that meeting has not been set yet and that it shall be known next week. Kacin warns that Serbia, i.e. the Action team for cooperation with the Tribunal, is now on the move. ‘The team has to persuade Brammertz on the basis of actions undertaken that Serbia is fully cooperating. If Brammertz is persuaded, that would contribute to better Serbia’s image’, Kacin says. The Netherlands and Belgium have not changed their stances regarding extradition of Ratko Mladic, but Brammertz positive opinion, as “Blic’ sources claim, might held the Netherlands agree that extradition of Mladic is set as a condition for ratification of the agreement by the parliaments of the EU member countries. EU delegation coming to Belgrade The EU delegation is coming to Belgrade to explain to Serbia authorities the details of the planned EU mission in Kosovo. The European diplomats led by Stephan Lehne, Javier Solana’s advisor are expected to meet with the Deputy Premier Bozidar Djelic, Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac, B92 learns. At the same time, in spite of the delayed signing of the interim agreement with the EU, the delegation of Serbia Government at the level of advisors was in Brussels yesterday. ‘Blic’ sources at Solana’s cabinet confirm that Brussels ‘has full understanding for the problems of Serbia’. They do not exclude the possibility that the SAA is offered for signing soon if the Netherlands changes its stance a bit and if it is assessed that Belgrade’s cooperation with the Hague Tribunal is satisfactory. As regards sending of the EU mission to Kosovo, the sources from Solana’s cabinet only repeat that the preparations are underway and that there is ongoing work on documentation required for implementation of the political decision made at the EU council in December. ‘The idea is that the mission deals with supervision, patronage and advising in the sphere of the rule of law. As such it would not have to seek approval by the UN Security Council nor would it have to undertake the competences from the UNMIK. However, the legal mechanism for the mission has not been defined yet’, Solana’s associates explained.
