More than 8.000 Serbs at a protest rally in Vienna

24/02/2008 16:15

More than 8,000 Serbs rallied in protest in down town Vienna, against
the unilateral independence of Kosmet. Albanian separatists and
terrorists, aided by their powerful Western allies, attacked Serbia, a
sovereign state, a UN member-state, with a view to taking away 15% of
its territory, it is emphasized in the announcement of the Serb Union in
Austria. It was underlined that those that killed Serb children with
cluster and uranium bombs want to create a new Albanian state – i.e.
their own military base – in the Serbian territory, ignoring law and
justice. Representatives of Serb organizations spoke at the gathering
about crimes committed by Kosmet Albanians against Serbs and other
non-Albanians, for which misdeeds Albanians were to be rewarded with a
state in the Serbian territory, it was emphasized. Some 300 people,
mostly Serbs, gathered in front of the Dutch Parliament in The Hague,
protesting against independence of Kosmet and asking of the Dutch
government not to recognize it. Serbs rallied in protest in several
German towns as well. The Central Council of Serbs in Germany invited
Serbs in Nuremberg, Dortmund and Koln to protests today.

Popovic: An independent Kosmet would be economically unsustainable

24/02/2008 14:34

The head of the Serbian Economic Team for Kosmet, Nenad Popovic, said
that an independent Kosmet would be totally unsustainable in terms of
economy. He told daily POLITIKA that is proved by the fact that some 60%
of the population in Kosmet fit for work are unemployed and that half of
them are people under 35. Kosmet produces almost three times less
electric energy than it did before 1999 and factories are not
functioning or are working at 10% capacity, he said. There are no
foreign investments in Kosmet, especially now, after the illegal
independence, Popovic said and added that the economic develpment in
Kosmet is possible only in the framework of Serbia’s constitutional and
legal order and that the economy of Kosmet has always depended on
central Serbia.

Kostunica calls on the USA to annul the recognition of Kosmet

24/02/2008 14:24

Serbian PM Vojislav Kostunica called on the USA to annul their decision
on the recognition of independence of Kosmet and thereby reestablish the
rule of international legal norms. The USA must enable the UN SC to
confirm the validity of Resolution 1244, which guarantees Serbia’s
sovereignty and territorial integrity, he emphasized and added that it
is upon Washington to enable that things return to their previous state
and that stability and peace in the region be confirmed. If not, the
continuation of the policy of force is only to deepen the crisis that is
undermining the foundations of the entire world order and is threatening
to endanger peace and stability, not only in the Balkans, he warned. He
emphasized that the Serbian government highly appreciates the stand of
the many countries that have not recognized the fake state in the
Serbian territory. Those countries are thus defending peace, stability
and freedom as the highest values of modern world, Kostunica emphasized.
