The travel warning, which had been upgraded from a travel alert issued last week, also advised U.S. citizens in Serbia to avoid large demonstrations in the capital, Belgrade, where street protesters have clashed with police recently. The warnings came after demonstrations in the wake of Kosovos declaration of independence from Serbia escalated and angry protesters last Thursday set fire to the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade at 50 Kneza Milosa St. Nonessential personnel were evacuated on Friday, and the embassy (above) remains closed pending repairs. The agency warns that future protests may turn violent. For updates, go to the agencys website.
