16th anniversary of the demise of 16 Serb civilians in B-H
20 July 2008.
The laying of wreaths and burning of candles at the graveyard in Bratunac today
has marked the 16th anniversary since the suffering of 16 Serb civilians in the
villages of Magasici and Ranca, who were killed by members of the Muslim armed
forces from Srebrenica, under the command of Naser Oric. On July 20, 1992,
during the aggression on the undefended Serb village of Upper Magasici, eight
civilians were massacred, of whom six men and two women. In the second attack,
five days later, in Lower Magasici and Ranca, another eight civilians were
murdered. During 1992 and 1993, 1,500 Serb civilian were killed in the region
of Srebrenica and Bratunac, and all Serb villages there, 165 of them, were
destroyed and burnt. So far, only Oric has been indicted for those crime, but
the Hague Tribunal has acquitted him on July 3, 2008, with the explanation that
the evidence was lacking to establish his command responsibility.
