Rehn: Serbia should unilaterally implement the Agreement 15. September 2008.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said today after the EU Council of Ministers did not decide to activate the Interim Trade Agreement, as well as the Stabilization and Association Agreement that Belgrade should ‘implement it unilaterally’. ‘I encourage the Serbian government to unilaterally begin implementing the provisions of the Interim Trade Agreement and the SAA’, said Rehn at a press conference after the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers where a consensus had not been reached to ‘green light’ the activation of the agreement. Most provisions of the agreement can be implemented unilaterally. If Serbia begins to implement them this will help prove that it can implement them correctly. By implementing provisions of the Interim Trade Agreement, Serbia can accelerate its EU integration on its own, underlined Rehn.
