In a draft report <http://assembly.coe.int/Mainf.asp?link=/Documents/WorkingDocs/Doc08/eDOC117 01.htm> made public today, PACE Monitoring Committee said the strengthening of democratic institutions and concrete implementation of reforms, in particular the reinforcement of parliament, abolition of the "imperative mandate" (a provision making the Members of Parliament entirely dependent on the goodwill of party leaderships) and judicial reform, can but further Serbia's European integration. The committee moreover welcomed the establishment of a new government supported by a wide and diverse coalition of political forces. It also hailed the arrest of Radovan Karad¾iæ and called on the Serb authorities to defend their position on Kosovo by peaceful, diplomatic means. This report will be debated during the Assembly's forthcoming plenary session (29 September-3 <http://assembly.coe.int/Main.asp?link=/Documents/WorkingDocs/Doc08/EDOC1167 4.htm> October).
