BELGRADE -- Serbia is the absolute record holder in the region in terms of
the number of public administration employees with some 28,000, daily
Vecernje Novosti writes.

The daily states that the public administration has four times more
employees now than it did in 2000.

All the related expenses— state-financed wages, pensions and other
payments—according to a rough estimate, amount to about EUR 15bn.

The wages for public administration employees alone eat into one-tenth of
gross domestic product, which is about EUR 3.5bn, the daily writes.
