This is one of the problems -- the double underscore... I suppose that the
solution to that is to get rid of the double __ and expose them only
if _NETBSD_SOURCE.

No that is not a problem. You are discussing what's to be done and
that's correct. Perhaps moving the discussion to tech-userlevel where it
was in the first place.
