One work-around for you is to use the "force checkin" feature. This will check in your 
local copy
without you having to do a checkout first. 

But what you're suggesting would be a nice addition to the "Advanced" section of the 
checkout
dialog. And you're right, this should not be hard to do. 

I'm trying to work on a 2.1.1 release. It's fairly unstable right now, but this would 
be the best
code-base to make your change it. However, if you want to make your changes to 2.1, I 
can retrofit
them. The file you need to work on is GetFilesDialog.java. There is a 
CheckOutFilesDialog, but
that's not being used right now.
