Political and power madness in Lakes State
By John Malou Manyiel, RSS OCT. 15/2011, SSN; Politics is a process by which groups of people make collective decisions in an honorable manner. Has it been misunderstood in Lakes State? Well, some people say politics is a dirty game while others say it is a wrong definition and I, too, agree with them because politics is not a dirty game, but a honorable one if played judiciously. It takes a divine mind to come out to be a servant of the people. It’s dirty when its players comes with their body of lies and dirty minds. Political madness between the youths that are on hurry into politics with their egotism, on one hand, and power greedy politicians, on the other, in Lakes State, can be seen that power can corrupt. Power is something that if placed in the wrong hands, can spoil a lot. The greed for power can make people do outrageous things, and once the power gets into the wrong hands, it will be abused, and can disrupt the sort of order that power is supposed to hold within the society. What has been the caused against Eng. Chol Tong as governor, is not a normal political exercise which is a constitutional one, not even his weaknesses neither in the government nor his own but problems brought by people outside his government of which he has nothing to do with them. Most of the things which are now being blamed on him were there since the time of former governor John Laat up to Daniel Awet Akot. What is the new thing that happened during this Chol Tong time? As I have seen, the power struggle and the way it is hunted in Lakes State, power changes people and it is mostly for the worst. Power can change people in a way that is incomprehensible. Power can make one so greedy that he/she will do anything for it and won’t let anyone, or anything stand in his/her way. The impact and consequences that the greed for power has on some people in Lakes State will be felt so soon if it not stopped at once. Greed is poison and it can cause otherwise decent people to act in deplorable ways. Nothing good ever comes from a greedy and hoarding mentality. It’s the most destructive force on the planet and one that should be avoided by anyone trying to provide value on any level. On the article dated 7th Oct by Agutthon Majok on SSN, that “Youths become the Argents of Chaos in Lakes State”. This has absolutely convinced me beyond doubt that youths in particular, though not all of them, have been the cause of all the problems, both in the government and in our communities as well in Lakes State. Their hurry and rush into politics with both two legs will never make our State be governed stably no matter whoever comes to be the governor. To give you an example of consequences we get when on hurry or rushing into something, there is a saying here that says,” there are a lot of time to regret when you wed in hurry.” Many times within discussions following an injury incident, one hears, "He just hurried too much" or "She was in a hurry and got careless." In both of these statements, a single cause, being in a hurry, is identified. The implication is that if that single cause were eliminated, the "accident" would not have happened. Unfortunately, as is the case with many things in Lakes State, the situation is generally more complicated. When actual incident scenarios are reviewed, it invariably comes to light that several factors played a role in "causing" the accident. Being in a hurry or feeling rushed may be a major contributor by compounding the effect of other factors involved. Two important factors that play a role in many injury incidents are risk perception and decision-making. The stress brought on by being in a hurry can affect both of these factors. Risk perception can be thought of as a person's judgment on the probability of injury occurring from a particular act or behavior. Many people judge jumping off a bridge while tied to a large rubber band to be very risky. In addition, people are generally not very accurate judges of risk anyway, overestimating some situations and underestimating others like what some of the youths have been doing against our State’s governor, Eng. Chol Tong, just only to tarnish his image and create rooms for their masters, is unacceptable. Most of the problems in our State are being created by the youths which some times make me wonder of why are we studying. Are we studying just to get employment or are we studying to be jobs creative to change the lives of our communities? It is not bad to have your opinions if the government is astray in running affairs of the State, because a government has to be shaped by its citizens but should be based on logical views rather than propaganda and gossiping. As the say, if you point an accusing finger, three of your fingers are pointing back at you.
