Subject: Small Arms Survey launches the Sudan Arms and Ammunition Tracing
Desk]
To: [email protected]

The Small Arms Survey’s Sudan Human Security Baseline Assessment (HSBA) is
pleased to announce a new initiative designed to refine our understanding of
the types and sources of small arms and light weapons in the hands of armed
actors operating in Sudan and South Sudan.

The aims of the Sudan Arms and Ammunition Tracing Desk are to:

   - Refine estimates of the numbers and types of weapons among various
Sudanese actors through focused field research.
   - Apply tracing techniques employed by UN expert panels and other
official bodies to investigate the origins and possible sourcing routes of
   weapons and ammunition
   - Promote best practices for the identification and tracing of arms and
ammunition in Sudan and South Sudan among all interested stakeholders.

Our goal is for the Tracing Desk to become a central resource and clearing
house for the identification and analysis of arms and ammunition holdings
and flows in Sudan and South Sudan.

Follow the links below for further information on the Tracing Desk, and the
first of two brief web reports on caches of arms and ammunition seized **by
the Sudan People’s Liberation Army from the forces of *George Athor* and *Peter
