TORIT, 13 November 2011 [Gurtong] – .A visiting team from the Ugandan
embassy in Juba urged Ugandan nationals residing in the Eastern
Equatoria State capital Torit to co-exist with their hosts and engage
in legal business activities.

The delegation led by the first secretary and political affairs
officer at the Ugandan embassy in Juba Aziz Buwedewo urged the
Ugandans to legalise their residence by obtaining proper travel
documents and work permits to avoid any clashes with the law.

He said that by so doing diplomatic ties between the neighbouring
countries will be enhanced.

“You should concentrate much on important businesses that brought you
here. Make your personal priorities beneficial to both yourselves and
your hosts. Please bear in mind that these are the same people you
hosted during the civil war and you should behave well if they are to
reciprocate the hospitality”, said Buwedewo.

This was the first visit by the Ugandan embassy to the state after the
independence of the South Sudan in July this year.

The meeting had been convened to listen to challenges faced by Ugandan
nationals in Torit and enhance relationships between the two
countries.

The Ugandan community residing in Torit has continuously complained of
mistreatment by South Sudanese authorities, including arbitrary
arrests and unfair business practices.
