MONEY OPERATORS RESUME BUSINESS IN WAU

Micro-finance and other small money transfer offices operating in Wau
have resumed businesses after a one-week closure due to licensing
issues.

Half a dozen forex companies operating in Wau were temporally closed
down by the Central Bank of South Sudan.

South Sudan Finance branch manager in Wau, Maku Mark, told Radio Voice
of Hope that the Central Bank of South Sudan asked forex operators to
close down until they obtained new operation licenses.

He said most private finance business operators had never renewed
their licenses since last year.

Mr Mark explained that they usually get licenses from their head
offices in Juba.

He said the Central Bank allowed bureaus to continue operating in Wau
while their head offices renew the licenses.

Mr Mark revealed that branch operators who did not respect the Central
Bank’s circular were arrested by the national security and detained
for one night, but were later released without any harm.

He advised all the private micro-finance institutions in the state to
adhere to rules and directives from the Central Bank to run their
business smoothly.
