Ugandan ministers resign over corruption Saturday, 18 February 2012 09:10 Regional >>> .Two Ugandan cabinet ministers at the center of a corruption scandal, Syda Bumba and Khiddu Makubuya on Thursday resigned.
According to BBC, the two ministers agreed to step down after a parliamentary investigation found they had illegally paid out millions of dollars to a city businessman. The payout was made when Bumba served as finance minister and Makubuya was attorney general. They are the latest casualties of an anti-corruption purge in Uganda that has seen four other ministers resign in a scandal of $60m (£38m) paid in excess to a businessman, a ruling party member, who had won tenders to develop areas of central Kampala. During the probe, the two ministers said it had been authorized by President Yoweri Museveni, but the president has denied the alegation. The ministers are accused of clearing an inflated pay package to a party official and businessman despite the cancellation of a government contract he'd earlier been awarded. Bbumba says she is innocent. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
