The 3 were shot at about 7.00 am on 17th February 2012 at an area locally called 'Ngerera' about 15 kilometres from Chukudum, the Budi County headquarters. Budi community members reported that a Suzuki pickup track was travelling from Kapoeta to Chukudum’s Loriyok town and Ngarich Boma; carrying 14 passengers mostly Kenyan contractors who had been constructing a complex commercial building at Budi County headquarters . According to the eyewitnesses, the vehicle was suddenly attacked at the Ngarera hallowed point. The 4 gunmen tried to stop the vehicle but the driver defied the orders and kept on driving hence triggering the assailants to spray the vehicle with bullets from behind then killing and injuring the victims. Some community members claimed that such incidents are believed to be either mere hooliganism or politically motivated acts against the people of Budi County since similar attacks were carried out on this very spot of Ngarera in the last three years or so. The Budi community sent condolences to the bereaved family for their lose. The County residents regretted that the ambush was yet another major setback for the County’s development progress since investors can obviously be terrified by these acts. Mr. Peter Logwe Marino, acting Administrator at Loriyok centre told Gurtong that the victims including the survivors were travelling the fateful afternoon to Kenya through Loriyok and Kapoeta towns via Nadapal, the main border between South Sudan and Kenya which connects to Lokichogio the Kenyan town bordering South Sudan.
