Lake state encourages girls education
Friday, 24 February 2012 11:42 South Sudan >>> .The Ministry of
Information in Lakes State has announced that over seventy percent of
candidates have passed primary-leaving examinations in the state with
Awerial County taking the lead where all candidates passed to
secondary level.

The Minister of Education Daniel Ayual Makoi said the performance of
pupils on various subjects was good except mathematics.

He added that boys did better than girls.

"I congratulate Awerial county this year for having brought a passing
mark a percentage of one hundred percent because fourteen candidates
sat and the passed and all of them pass examination so Awerial County
is number one."

Ayual urged all parents to encourage education of girls.

Ayual directed teachers, education directors at the counties and
supervisors to put more efforts in improving the students performance
in mathematics.

In another development, the minister said that Riak-Dor Primary school
in Rumbek will be upgraded into secondary school to accommodate the
new secondary students.

The department of examination cited some challenges that face them as
they carrying out their work: insufficient text books, not enough
qualified teachers and lack of mobility to inspect schools in the
state.
