Last week President Kiir appointed 90 first ever South Sudanese Ambassadors but with only 9 women representing the 25% percent power sharing constitutional requirement. However, women have challenged the appointment saying it is against the constitution though the President tried to respect it. “We feel there is gender imbalance in the appointment of the Ambassadors. I want to tell the government that it should revise the constitution and fulfil their promises,” Ambassador Sitona Abdalla Osman told Gurtong. She pointed out that, among the 10 Ambassadors appointed as Grade (1) Ambassadors, there are no women. Women are anly appointed to Grade (2) and (3). Abdalla outlined that; “women representation always remain a question to be addressed by the government” despite the constitution stipulation. I appeal that, the involvement of women in all fields is crucial and they can do best in these fields,” she said.
