While addressing the demonstrators at Rumbek freedom square, the
Union's Chairperson Mr. Manyiel Dut Kok articulated that youths across
the state’s 8 counties joined to support their president’s choice to
keep SPLA forces in Heglig.

Mr. Dut noted that “we wrote to petition the UN Secretary General Mr.
Ban Ki-moon to be fair in mind and to approach the political situation
in South Sudan and Sudan carefully and not to take sides. The Republic
of South Sudan is a sovereign state; so our president is the
commander-in-chief.”

He called upon the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) to make fair
rulings. Dut recalled how “silent” South Sudan was when the UN never
compelled Khartoum to withdraw its forces from Abyei during last
year’s attacks.

“We the South Sudan citizens are calling on the International
community to be very fair in judging the current stalemate. The UN
should speed up the talks and resolve the current worsening situation
between the two States,” he added.

He vowed that Lakes state citizens are ready to defend their borders
including Abyei and beyond.

The youths chanted as they displayed messages in placards condemning
the continued bombardment within South Sudan’s territory. The
demonstration also meant to boost the morale of SPLA forces in the
front line. They marched to UNMISS compound main gate in Rumbek to
present their petitions.

In other news, the leader of SPLM youth league and member of
parliament Mr. Akol Paul Kordit has told parliamentarians to be
watchful that the situation might escalate to a full blown war and
urged them to be prepared. He further said that the country should be
prepared to donate blood for the soldiers who may have been wounded in
the war.

He challenged the legislators to lead by example through contributing
for the SPLA operations by cutting 10% of their salaries before they
would ask the poor citizens to contribute.
