Border and Oil War: Preventing a holocaust
BY: Wal Thok Duoth, RSS

MAY 6/2012, SSN; The clashes that we are witnessing between Republic
of South Sudan and Sudan are early indications that the two countries
will not be good neighbors’ because of the hostile policy played by
Government in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, for the reasons they
understood better.
The core of all these border clashes are driven by Khartoum's interest
in subduing every border town which is rich or they thought to be rich
in mineral or natural resources, starting from Western Bhar El ghazal
State to Upper Nile State.

Therefore, the International Community should be careful in this murky
situation because we know this part of the world more than you do.
When we come to the status of Panthou (Heglig) the truth can be
revealed through the inhabitants who are mainly from Nuer and Dinka,
this town is part and partial of South Sudan per colonial 1956 British
demarcated border line, therefore this is time for the British to come
in by providing historical details on where exactly the border lies.

I personally know the British may fear that its bilateral relation
with Sudan will get damaged, but the truth must come out victorious.

In this case Panthou and other contested areas are deeply found inside
the now Republic of South Sudan.

Therefore, there is no justification for someone like UN Secretary
General describing South Sudan Army SPLA as illegal occupier as a
matter of fact he cannot point where the border lies, this should be
very clear that we have tangible documents supporting our claims.
This is a fact that should be clearly understand by UN-SG that we
don’t claim it because of its richness in natural resources like
Khartoum government does. Is not only Panthou and Karesana alone which
are being disputed, and to mention a few more of these which are
Kafia Kingi, Hofra Nahas, Meirem, Magenese Wunthou, etc.

However, for the International Community to turn a blind eye on the
reality of the situation is disappointing to the Government and people
of Republic of South Sudan, because our hope was that the World will
be cautious about Khartoum's Claims.

The world should also know that beginning from the independence of the
old Sudan in 1956 up to our independence in 2011, Khartoum’s
government forcefully annexed many areas along the colonial demarcated
border line specifically at the Northern part of our frontier where
our countries definitely met.

This should be very clear as the world must bear in mind that our
claims of those areas aren't based on the resources- (oil)- to tell
the truth unlike the people in Khartoum government who claim the land
because of the resources ambition.

However, as a ordinary citizen in this country, I must say it loud and
clear that we are failing the diplomatic war, because the false
propaganda being displayed by Khartoum government is deceiving the
Continent and the world Community as you all know that they have their
envoys in both AU and UN.

While we are just watching thinking that the world around us will
definitely know the truth of the situation, forgetting that they have
little or poor information on our border issues, I will encourage
quick deployment of South Sudan’s envoys to every influential corner
of this planet earth so that we are able to advocate our rights in the
world’s governing systems.

Now Sudan has declared the state of emergency in the states bordering
South Sudan, this will be an excuse to give a greenlight to the Sudan
security forces to arrest, torture and ultimately murder specifically
our compatriots who are at Kosti river port waiting to come home to
South Sudan.

I call upon the United Nations Security Council to provide
International protection forces to the South Sudanese Nationals who
are at risk of underground planned massacre in Kosti by Sudan
government. UNSC should provide those temporary forces to escort these
people to South Sudan town of Renk without wasting time, otherwise
eminent threat is at hands as we are talking.

However, UNSC should know that this is an indicted regime which does
not fear indictment anymore, don’t wait and later talk about people
who had been kills, the time is now.

I also call upon my Government, the Government of Republic of South
Sudan to exhaust all efforts to talk to friends and well wishers of
people of South Sudan to get these people out of Kosti to prevent
holocaust happening once more on this part of the planet Earth,
therefore, it should be taken seriously as a matter of fact.

And lastly, I encourage the parties involved in the fighting to avoid
an all out war and make a peaceful approach to these issues so that we
once more embark on the development of our two sovereign neighboring
countries. And may God Bless the People of Republic of South Sudan.
