The National Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said the Foreign
Minister of Norway promised to honour the independence promise to
construct a national archive in South Sudan.

Cirino Hiteng Ofuho told CRN that the pledge is materializing as
discussions between his ministry and the Norwegian Embassy are at an
advanced stage.

He said the parties are consulting with experts on architectural
designs and the bidding process should be launched soon.

The minister added that some drawings have already reached the Ministry.

Undersecretary Jok Madut Jok is assigned to follow the national archive project.

Mr Hiteng said the archive would be constructed between Independence
Square and Juba University grounds, near John Garang Memorial.

He added that the ministry is planning to build a museum and a national theatre.

Mr Hiteng revealed that recently South Sudan drama team performed very
well in the Shakespeare Festival in the UK.

Most of South Sudan’s historic documents are sitting in a tent on the
compound of Central Equatoria ministry of Culture at the mercy of
mice, white ants, dust, humidity and hit.
