Government disagrees with parliament to suspend officials

The Citizen Juba, 14/06/12 - The Minister of Information and
Broadcasting who is also the government official spokesperson
Dr.Barnaba Marial Benjamin has disagreed with parliament decision
asking the President to suspend the 75 officials charged with
corruption.
“First of all the 75 people who were written letters by the President
were not suspected of having embezzled funds, we would like to make
that clear,” said Marial adding that the decision taken by the
parliament was “unwise”. He said the parliament should have encouraged
the President since he has already started the work with the help of
anti-corruption commission.
Marial said most of these funds were associated with the grain saga
known as “Dura saga” of which many companies were expected to be paid
after delivering the grain. The Minister said others were paid when
they had not delivered and some after delivery and that’s where most
funds got misappropriated.
Marial empathized that the National Legislative Assembly should have
encouraged the President to proceed with the step he has already taken
and not to prescribe to him the solutions. He said the President was
clear that he was not accusing anybody and parliament should have
adopted the methods which were put by the President to recover the
lost money.
