South Sudan attempts to standardize bread
Thursday, 14 June 2012 05:42 Muna Tesfai South Sudan >>> . The Ministry of Commerce and Investment on Wednesday issued a statement directing all bakeries to standardize their weights for bread. The statement, signed by an Undersecretary in the Ministry Simon Nyang Anei, directed that a loaf of bread must weigh 100 grams; 800 grams for sliced loaf. Nyang said this is in conformity with South Sudan's Weight and Measures Act. The directive comes after the public complained about an increase in the price of bread, which they said is inconsistent with the weight. The managers of the bakeries located in Atlabara, Nimira Talata suburbs and near the University of Juba all said they were forced to raise prices because of an increase in price of ingredients used to make the bread. They also denied complaints from the public that they are putting the chemical (Potassium Bromate) in their bread to make it appear whiter. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
