CHURCH SHOULD ALWAYS SPEAK OUT AGAINST INJUSTICES, SAYS PASTORAL OFFICIAL

The Director of Pastoral Services, Solidarity with South Sudan (SSS),
Sr. Catherine Arata has said that the Church should always be at the
fore front in speaking out against human rights violation and other
forms of injustices for the sake of making the world a better place.

Speaking to Good News Radio Tuesday in Rumbek Diocese, at the ongoing
three days workshop on Catholic Social Teachings and the Africae-munus
document that came out of the synod of Africa Bishops in 2009, Sr.
Catherine said that the fast way to realizing this objective, would be
to ensure that people are enlightened about the principals of the
Catholic Social Teaching.

Sr. Catherine noted that the Catholic Social Teaching has a message
for everyone including Governments, recalling how a Jesuit priest from
the United States of America, Fr. David Hollenbach, recently made a
presentation to Members of the South Sudan’s National Legislative
Assembly, on Catholic Social Teaching and how it can be used as a
guiding principal in building the new Nation and in the ongoing
Transitional Constitution review process.

Meanwhile, Sr. Catherine Arata highlighted the need for communities in
South Sudan to embrace reconciliation and unity, saying that although
people would always find it difficult to forgive their aggressors, God
is always willing to initiate the spirit of reconciliation among his
people.

The School of Norte Dame sister observed that the church is always
calling on her members, the disciples of Jesus Christ, who is the
great healer, to be reconciled with one another, arguing that
reconciliation is certainly the foundation upon which the principals
of Catholic Social Teaching are built and upon which nations can also
be built.

The Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Africae Munus, which meanst
Africa’s Commitment, was Published on 19th November 2012, in the
Republic of Benin in West Africa by Pope Benedict XVI.

The three day workshop on Catholic Social Teaching and the Africae
Munus document, which is taking place at the Pastoral Center in
Rumbek, is organized by CARITAS South Sudan, with Participants, who
include Priests, Sisters and catechists coming from various parishes
of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
