The Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, Kornelio Koriom
Mayiik has called on commercial banks in the country to encourage
exports to increase revenue and reduce dependence on imported goods.

Koriom made the appeal in Juba on Friday while speaking at the
official launch of the South Sudan Bankers Association.

He also advised the banks to provide services that would encourage the
business community to get involved in ventures outside the oil sector
to reduce dependence on oil.

The Association's Chairperson, Thuch Malweth Chol cited lack of
incentives and illegal money changers as key challenges facing the
banking industry.

Malweth said the illegal money changers should be registered and given
operational licenses.

The South Sudan Bankers Association which was formed in August 2010
has a membership of 15 commercial banks.

However the association was not officially launched until Friday.
