LRA attacks on the rise despite hunt: UN
Tuesday, 17 July 2012 09:43 Mabior Mach Regional >>> . The United Nations has said attacks by the rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) have increased in recent months despite military efforts to hunt down the rebels. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affair, UNOCHA, released a report saying there were at least 62 attacks in north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and nine attacks in the eastern Central African Republic (CAR) between April and June this year. The report said 11 civilians were killed and 37 people abducted in the attacks. Regional armies, backed by around 100 United States Special Forces troops, are currently hunting the outlawed rebel outfit in the CAR. The rebels are thought to number around 150 fighters, but have splintered into small groups and remain capable of terrorizing communities across a big area. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
