Inter-state peace conference called off
Friday, 20 July 2012 07:30 Mabior Mach South Sudan >>> . The inter-state peace meeting between Western Equatoria and Lakes states that was scheduled for Friday has been called off. The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, Sapana Abui, told a delegation of Community Empowerment and Progress Organization (CEPO), the organizers of the conference, that the meeting could not proceed for it was organized without involving the state authorities. "We cannot authorize the meeting to go ahead because to let the two ministers meet, it was like we have accepted this meeting which was organized without our consent," said Abui. The conference was called off after the Lakes State delegation had arrived in WES capital, Yambio. "What we will do, as one of our government officials, we will just on social basis contact him and apologize to him for all the mess and then when he is going back then we will see him off. But the meeting, we have cancelled. It will not take place," Abui explained. CEPO apologized for poor coordination. "I don't think that intentionally it is to promote conflict. My intention is to work peacefully," said Edomnd Yakani, CEPO Coordinator. The meeting was aimed at bringing together the ministers of Local Government in the two states to review the conflict resolutions adopted during the previous peace conference held between the community of Mvolo County in WES and the neighboring Mapuordit of Lakes.
