Sudan, South Sudan talks likely to extend beyond 2nd August.
Sudanvisiondaily.com Khartoum, 22/7/2012 – There is a tendency to
extend negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan in Addis Ababa
beyond August 2nd, the deadline set by the UNSC resolution 2046,
informed diplomatic sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have
said.
The source said negotiations between the two parties would continue
until the end of July, adding that South Sudan only suspended direct
negotiations not the whole process as reported by the media.
Talks are now ongoing in Addis Ababa instead of the Ethiopian resort
of Bahar Dar, the source said, adding that the two parties held a
lengthy meeting yesterday in presence of the mediation and it is
likely that the issue of continuity of negotiations would be raised
and a joint memo would be submitted to the mediation requesting
extension of negotiations until an agreement is reached on outstanding
issues.
The source said the meeting of the joint committee which was held
yesterday in Asosa focused on the strength of the monitoring forces,
number of outposts, armament and the relationship of the monitoring
forces with the UN forces. These details were needed for logistical
and force transportation purposes, the source added.
