Lakes State Deputy Police Commissioner has blamed increase of illegal
firearms for the recent rise of insecurity in Lakes State.

David Dut Marial said on Monday morning that it has been established
that some illegal arms have been entering Lakes State from Unity State
through Maper area in Rumbek North County, Radio Good News reported.

Brig. Marial confirmed that some suspects have already been
apprehended for possessing illegal arms.

He expressed concern that some people are still using illicit guns to
destabilize peace and tranquillity in Rumbek Town.

Marial revealed that the police force is working closely with other
security organs to deal with the challenge of illegal arms in the
State.

He warned that killing is a capital offense and that stringent action
will be taken against those who will be arrested for committing such
crimes.

Brig. Dut Marial disclosed that Cueibet, Yirol East, Rumbek East and
Rumbek North counties are among the most hit by the recent incidents
of insecurity and that situation has also been aggravated by cattle
rustling.

The Cueibet clashes, which lasted for nearly one month, is said to
have left about 10 people dead and many injured.
