ROBBERS TARGET MALAKAL CHURCH INSTITUTIONS

 Monday, 23 July 2012 14:26

Robbers have broken into a number of Catholic Church intuitions last
week in Malakal spreading fear and insecurity among religious people
in the capital of Upper Nile state.

A church source told CRN that on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday,
robbers broke into the Cathedral compound on Muduriya area and tried
to raid the parish office and the priests’ house without success.

On the same night, there was a break-in at St Daniel Comboni Church
but there was nothing to steal at the temple.

On the night of Friday to Saturday robbers were particularly active in Malakal.

They raided the Comboni Sisters community, talking a laptop computer
and mobile phone.

They also tried to break into the Bishop’s House, but Monsignor Roko
Taban shouted for help and the thieves ran away with some clothes.

On the same night, thieves broke into Christ the King parish compound,
in Hai Malakia, stealing 80 pounds from the youth office.

They also entered into the Church and took away one vase full of
consecrated hosts.

Our source said Church authorities are wondering why the robbers took
the Holy Communion away and how they knew where the key for the
tabernacle was kept.

The break-ins were reported to Malakal Police and the commissioner
promised to investigate the incidents that seem to be organized crime.
