Government gives 1st priority to south sudan-ethiopia road construction Sudan Radio Service Juba, 15/8/2012 – The Vice President of the Republic says the government is giving priority to construction of roads that link South Sudan with Ethiopia in order to ease trade. Doctor Riek Machar was speaking in Juba during a party organized by Gajaak community for the reception of the former Upper Nile State Governor, Dak Duop Bichok who defected from the National Congress Party and joined the S-P-l-M. “The road from Pagak, Maiwut, Longichuk, Gwelguk to Paloch is the priority road which is being tendered out. The other road is also from Jikaw, going through Khor Machar, Malual-gahoth, coming to Nassir down to Malakal. These two roads are being done in parallel,” said Mr. Machar. Machar said he is optimistic that the roads will improve trade between the two countries. “Very soon once these two roads leading to Ethiopia are completed, even the third one, which is coming from Jebel Raad via Dima, you will find that you have three roads leading to Ethiopia. Since commodities are cheaper in Ethiopia than in East Africa and the area will be bursting with trade activities,” said Machar. Machar urged the communities living along the border of South Sudan with Ethiopia to prepare themselves to do business in order to improve their living conditions.
