Sudan objects to delivery of humanitarian aid to Abyei through Juba
Sudan Vision Daily Khartoum, 15/8/2012 – Abyei Humanitarian Affairs
Commissioner Umbadi Yahia Kabashi said the number of the affected
citizens north of the town of Abyei is 83668; they were counted by the
commission.
Umbadi added in a special press release to (Sudan Vision) that 2000
citizens have arrived in Abyei from North and South Sudan in the
recent days according to the estimates of the United Nations.
Umbadi pointed out that the joint meeting of the mechanism in Abyei
stressed the right of the citizens to obtain basic human needs; and
the Sudanese government is ready to allow all organizations to deliver
humanitarian relief according to the law of Humanitarian work and
without breaching the sovereignty of Sudan.
Umbadi revealed that South Sudan has shown a reserved position
regarding the procurement of humanitarian relief through Sudan and
asked to allow relief to enter the area through Juba; but Sudan
objected to that saying that Abyei is Sudanese and South Sudan has no
jurisdiction in it until the referendum decides where it belongs;
adding that the next meeting in September will settle all these
disputes.
Umbadi expressed the willingness of Sudan to coordinate with the other
party as stated by the framework agreement signed in Addis Ababa;
calling for speedy establishment of the Abyei Administration and its
legislature.
