The UN Human Rights Office, says that there is an urgent need to end
the climate of impunity in Sudan's Darfur region.

The acting Spokesperson for the UN Human Rights High Commissioner,
Ravina Shamdasani, said the commission issued this statement following
the deadly attack earlier this week on a convoy from the UNAMID.

Shamdasani, told UN Radio in New York, that the human Rights
Commission reminds the Government (of Sudan) of its responsibility to
protect mission staff as they fulfill their mandate to protect
civilians and monitor human rights violations.

Shamdasani, said the government must promptly launch a serious
investigation with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
