BOR, 30 October 2012 [Gurtong] – “The number we reported to WFP was
around 10,000 households, the actually number which are now leaving in
the county is 85 per cent out of the affected figure of 10,000
households,” said Duk County Commissioner Elijah Mochnom Wuor.

In July the flood displaced residents in Panaru, Payuel, Duk-Padiet,
Mareng, Panyang and Pagak.

“The people are now still waiting for the medicines since June and as
I am talking now there is outbreak of the malaria diseases in the
area,” he said.

He said the county has only one hospital and three clinics and only
Payuel Clinic is working.

“We have the lost boy clinic in the area; it is the only clinic the
community is depending on including the NGOs in the county, a part
from that we have the clinic in Duk Padiet but no drugs, we have also
one in Poktap and one in Pakam and all of them are not functioning due
to over flooding,” he said.

He said there is no mobility and taking drugs in rainy season can only
be done by a helicopter.

“I received the message from Pibor County commissioner that the
militia groups are moving towards the areas of Bor, Twic East and Duk
Counties. And this morning I heard that there are some foot prints
coming toward these areas and the South Sudan army is now following
them,” Wuor said.

“The SPLA are ready but I talked to the executive director so that
they keep patrolling between Poktap, Panyang and Padiet and the areas
around,” he said.
