JUBA, 14 November 2012 [Gurtong] – South Sudanese Interior Minister
Alison Manani Magaya told press in Juba after holding a meeting with
the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to brief him on the security
situation in the country.

“We are trying to re-organize security arrangements in Juba based on
quarter councils…we are taking preparations for December where we will
have a number of criminals in Christmas including January,” Manani
said.

“We are taking these steps together with the government of Central
Equatoria State (CES) and the Mayor of Juba city,” he added.

Magaya further unveiled that government had also approved a
supplementary budget for the South Sudan National Police (SSNA).

He said the budget will particularly enhance the training of the
police, a move aimed at improving the standard of the police in the
country.

The Ministry launched statistics reports in October indicating a
decline in crimes committed in South Sudan. The first report was
compiled between December 2011 and February 2012 and the second was
filed between March and May 2012. They both showed a decline in all
the crimes committed.
