Lakes State hosts tripartite peace conference

Representatives from Western Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria and the host Lakes State are among 64 people taking part in the tri-State Conference. The Lakes State minister of local government and law enforcement, Benjamin Makuer Mabor, has described the peace and early warning meeting as a new approach to maintaining peace and managing natural disasters such as floods. "Our state has experienced conflicts of major magnitude which has caused highest loss of lives, property and displacement of people emanating from cattle rustling, communal fighting and revenge killings which has become an endemic activity as the state is unable to control. Natural disasters witnessed by the state were the drought of last year 2011 which amounted to the total lost of crops, resulted in the famine of this year 2012 making the state dependent on imported food from Uganda," the state minister said.
