[Gurtong | File] By Peter Lokale Nakimangole TORIT, 24 February 2013 [Gurtong] –Hon. Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi initiated the roll call during an extra-ordinary session, on Friday. He says MPs should not attempt to claim for allowances without attending parliamentary sessions. The roll call comes following continuous warnings the state legislative assembly speaker made to the state law makers over persistent absenteeism from the August House. He says some MPs miss deliberations without adequate reasons. In January, the speaker announced publicly to the members that the move will be affected during the current session. Each MP gets SSP 450 as sitting allowance at the end of each month and in one month there are 12 sittings. The speaker said that the Assembly Business Committee (ABC) resolved to have MPs’ sitting allowance be cut for non attendance during parliamentary sittings. The Speaker believes that the latest move will improve parliamentary session’s attendance as many MPs failed to attend to the house business. Last year, a similar warning was issued but was not implemented as expected. He also warned that MPs who fail attend more than 19 sittings would be dismissed from the state assembly.
